Edge: The HTML5 animation transition
Flash (long live Flash) has moved out of first place as the darling editor for 2D animation. It could not quite make a graceful jump into the HTML5 world of mobile media, even though it currently provides the best compression of any animation editor. The newest leader, Edge, will provide elegant HTML5 creations, not just for mobile systems, but across all sizes and shapes and platforms. However, as of February 8, 2012, it is a free download of an alpha/beta version of the program, Edge 4.
Interesting resources include:
- A review of Edge - Adobe Edge: completing the Flash/HTML cycle
- Free download.
- Beginner's guide to Adobe Edge Preview 3
- Adobe Edge Preview Resources
- Lynda.com (subscription fee) has a fine screen movie introduction to Edge.
- Swiffy: convert SWF files to HTML5
- Convert any video to HTML5
